Who the…?

Luke has been surfing since the age of 7, and still doesn’t like writing about himself. He surfed competitively until the age of 19 rising through Cronulla Boardriders, the Billabong Jnr Series, O&E / HB Pro Jnr, training with coaches Steve Brown & Martin Dunn; but didn’t win as much as he would have liked, so quit and moved to the mountains of California, followed by a brief stint riding a bike up and down the boardwalk all day for 3 months in San Diego during spring break.
Still under the age of 21 and therefore somewhat handicapped trying to chase a career in the music industry, he jumped on the disco train and moved to London.
5 years later, they still couldn’t kick him out having worked his way up through the media industry, working & writing for various publications including 7 Magazine, Time Out, FACT, TNT and Flavour Pill. As PR & Marketing Manager for East London sound bunker Cargo, he pimped his music bitches all over town, and even posed as a DJ for some time, having spunked all his spare cash on vinyl records and blagging gigs around London, Paris & Belgium. When his Dad shipped over his pride and joy to London, a 5′10″ twin fin covered in bright red flames and big rainbow fins, surfing trips to France and Morocco soon followed with little less than that board and a pair of boardies.
After years of moon tanning, and at risk of developing a right proper dodgy pommy accent, he moved back to Australia to rediscover how to surf more than once a year, spread the word that indie music was no longer shit, and guerilla marketing was not just a sexy name.
In possession of the Australian license to UK arts & music publication Don’t Panic, he launched the company along with the independent record label Mosquito’s Tweeter. Hell-bent on releasing obscure 7″ records popular amongst men with beards and girls who like kissing girls, some of the tunes were featured in Taylor Steele’s videos, and ASL DVD’s, which meant they had to be cool. Well, that’s what we told the girls.
An avid user of all things web 2.0 and social media, Luke has been working in digital communications for years, and even occasionally attempts to write html. When not speaking of myself in the 3rd person, I’m married to an amazing Parisian lady, and live in Maroubra (where I was born) with our cat, and my mint condition 1963 classic Vespa.
I live for the webcasts of the ASP Tour. I watch every heat, no matter the time of day or night. I can’t wait to see where the sport is heading. After my family, it’s the thing that excites me the most. So much so, it’s inspired me to start this blog.
